Gameplay & Rules
You are a hero on a quest to rid the world of fiends scheming within one of four dungeons. Combat takes place over several phases:
Roll Phase
You roll your dice and assign your action points to different stats. These stats are represented by symbols at the bottom of the screen. Your stats are displayed below, while the fiends’ stats in the room are above. The stats you can modify with your action points are:
- 👢 Movement: Determines how far you can move.
- 🗡️ Attack: Determines how much damage you can deal.
- 🛡️ Defense: Determines how much damage you can mitigate.
- 🏹 Range (Archer only): Determines how far away you can attack.
When you're finished, press the green "End Turn" button to lock in your choices and proceed to the next phase.
Action Phase
During this phase, you can move and attack—either in any order or multiple times, as long as you have action points.
- Moving: Spend action points assigned to your movement stat. The dungeon grid consists of 5x5 squares:
- Moving orthogonally (up/down/left/right) costs 2 movement points.
- Moving diagonally costs 3 points.
- Walls block movement, and hazards cost an extra 1 movement point to move onto.
- The game highlights available move options and their costs.
- Range: Get into range, measured the same as movement, but range points are not spent. Attacking over hazards does not incur a range penalty, but walls can block line of sight. Line of sight is determined by whether any corner of your square can draw an unimpeded line to the center of the target's square.
- Attacking: Spend attack points equal to the target’s defense points. Example:
- You have 7 attack points, and your target has 4 defense points.
- You spend 4 attack points to deal 1 damage (subtracting defense from attack).
- Remaining attack points 3 are unused for that attack.
Fiend Phase
Fiends move toward their preferred range from you, according to their movement points. After moving:
- If they are in range, they attack you.
- Multiple fiends attack simultaneously, combining their attack points.
- Damage calculation:
- Total combined attack points divided by your defense points, rounded down.
- For example, if they deal 8 attack points and you have 5 defense, you take 1 damage
- If your defense is 4, you would take 2 damage.
- To avoid damage, ensure your defense exceeds the incoming attack.
Level Up Phase
After defeating all fiends in a room, you can:
- Level up one of your stats, or
- Heal to full health.
To do so, click on the icon of the stat you wish to improve. Leveling up adds 1 permanent point to that stat for the rest of the dungeon. You cannot exceed 6 points in any stat this way.
